Spry Fox announced that Spirit Crossing is coming to Steam during the Wholesome Snack showcase. The studio noted that the team gets to bring the title to Steam as part of this latest update. Earlier in the year, Spry Fox announced that they were working on a cozy MMO focused on connection. Since that initial announcement, the team grew an Alpha player community providing feedback and bug reports to help refine the project. According to Spry Fox, the game is a little bit different from earlier projects while maintaining attention to writing, art, and square bears.

Spry Fox is also becoming an independent studio once more. The developer explained that becoming independent provides fuller control over keeping their games alive and playable. Spry Fox stated that this shift also means having more control over the platforms where their games appear.

Alongside the Steam announcement, the studio introduced several of the square bears appearing in the game. The first character shown was Rudi, described as an anti-capitalist who enjoys friendly water balloon competitions. The team also presented Hardtack, a seafaring bear who hosts fishing tournaments. The studio also introduced Eudora, a bear who helps players feel at home in the Waystations. The announcement hinted at additional characters, including a tiny roommate who loves bagels.

Spry Fox invited interested players to wishlist Spirit Crossing on Steam to track future developments. The studio noted that they will continue providing updates and answering questions regarding the bears and the game.
